Also THIS SUNDAY, Marigold Fine's book release reading, Jun 2 at 2pm, Capitola Library
Dear Friend,
Blessings to you as we all turn towards Summer. Before I tell you about a stunning new book Sacred Psychiatry by Judy Tsafrir, I want to mention that I look forward to seeing you THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 2 at 2 pm for a book release celebration of Marigold Fine’s Double Rainbow: Collected Poems and Memoir Musings, at Capitola Library, 2005 Wharf Road, Capitola, CA 95010.
Double Rainbow documents an iconic American life that illustrates the sixties counter-cultural youth movements, the choice to follow a path of profound spiritual learning and love of the land, connections with one’s culture and ancestors, and the wisdom forged in love with a beloved partner, evolving and aging. Marigold is a long-time and beloved member of our writing community. Also reading will be the terrific writers Carolyn Davis Rudolph and Judy Phillips. I am honored to serve as emcee.
The reading is free and open to the public. Please register to help plan for seating and refreshments. You can purchase Double Rainbow at BookBaby and Amazon.
Sacred Psychiatry: Cosmos & Deep Nature in Healing
In 2016, I met a remarkable woman. She is a psychiatrist, an artist and a gifted writer from Massachusetts with a calm, direct gaze and an inner ease. Her name is Judy Tsafrir. I had eleven days to get to know her because she joined my “Landscape of Soul and Story” Tour and Writing Retreat in Ireland that year. I watched as the Irish landscape and sacred places entered her in a profound way, and admired her insightful writing and quiet wisdom.
Two years later, she attended one of my week-long writing retreats in California, and I learned she was writing a book about her work as a psychiatrist and holistic healer. I could tell immediately that it would be extraordinary. She joined my online Writing Intensive as she was completing the book, and found her exquisite title during that time.
I am now thrilled to announce that JUDY TSAFRIR’S new work SACRED PSYCHIATRY: Bridging the Personal and Transpersonal to Transform Health and Consciousness is available.
Sacred Psychiatry offers a diverse range of holistic approaches to healing beyond traditional psychiatry. Judy discusses the importance of a personal spiritual practice, the healing insights of astrology, addressing toxic relationships, and the remarkable healing power of food as medicine. Sacred Psychiatry also provides a framework for weaning off of psychiatric pharmaceuticals and highlights treatable but frequently overlooked complex chronic conditions.
Here is my endorsement of Judy Tsafrir’s remarkable new book:
“What happens when a brilliant Harvard psychiatrist meets her inner wounded healer at 49 years old? She changes her life and embarks on a two-decade immersion into the holistic truth at the core of our being. In Sacred Psychiatry, Judy Tsafrir gives us her years of experience with a vast store of successful healing methods, both Eastern and Western. She reminds us that we all exist on several terrains, and that ailments which express themselves as psychiatric will always have multi-faceted causes. Every reader will come away with gifts and new understandings. She is not only a psychiatrist and MD, but also an experienced astrologer and shamanic healer who has integrated an understanding of the cosmos and deep nature into her tending of the body/mind/spirit. Sacred Psychiatry is for all of us as we confront our uncertain planetary future. An inspiring, hopeful, and nourishing offering.” — Carolyn Brigit Flynn
Yesterday I learned that Sacred Psychiatry has been honored with a Nautilus Award in Health, Wellness and Healing. The core mission of the Nautilus Awards is to celebrate and honor books that support conscious living and green values, wellness, social change, social justice, and spiritual growth.
Judy has also been invited to be the keynote speaker at the Mind-Body-Spirit Psychotherapy Conference in Sedona, Arizona this October 2024, with the theme “Creating Sacred Spaces in Mental Health.”
Judy’s writing can be found in Sacred Stone, Sacred Water: Women Writers & Artists Encounter Ireland, the book I edited that emerged from the remarkable group of writers, artists, photographers and who healers joined me in Ireland in 2016.
You can also find more about Judy Tsafrir’s work at her professional site, as well as her author site.
Blessings upon the wounded healers, the artists, writers, astrologers, singers, teachers offering a new path to all of us—
Carolyn
