Announcing Marigold Fine's new book DOUBLE RAINBOW
Join us for a book release reading, Sun Jun 2, 2pm, Capitola Library
Dear Friend,
I'm delighted to announce the release of Marigold Fine's new book DOUBLE RAINBOW: Collected Poems and Memoir Musings. Marigold is a gifted writer and documentary filmmaker who is admired and loved in Santa Cruz, and a long-time member of our writing community.
Double Rainbow documents an iconic American life that illustrates the sixties counter-cultural youth movements, the choice to follow a path of profound spiritual learning and love of the land, connections with one’s culture and ancestors, and the wisdom forged in love with a beloved partner, evolving and aging.
JOIN US FOR THE BOOK RELEASE CELEBRATION! We will celebrate Double Rainbow with a live book release event at 2 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Capitola Library, 2005 Wharf Road, Capitola, CA 95010.
Marigold will read from Double Rainbow, and has invited two writer friends to join her and share their own beautiful work: Carolyn Davis Rudolph, writer, food activist & owner of restaurant Charlie Hong Kong, and Judy Phillips, writer, artist, storyteller and long-time Santa Cruz resident. I am honored to serve as emcee.
Here is my endorsement of this wonderful book:
"Double Rainbow is a vast cornucopia of riches from a life well and deeply lived. We are offered prose and poetry about transforming into one's truest self without rejecting one’s past. We meet ancestors, the spiritual high desert of New Mexico, and life by the sea in California with a beloved partner. Double Rainbow is a testament to the spiritual life, one that understands eastern and western modes of praise and prayer, as well as our most ancient pagan roots. It celebrates the light notes of daily life, and high notes of wisdom, honesty, and raw truth." -- Carolyn Brigit Flynn
The reading is free and open to the public. Please register to help plan for seating and refreshments.
You can purchase Double Rainbow at BookBaby and Amazon, and of course you can buy a copy and have it signed by the author at the reading on June 2!
In these times, I send blessings to all writers and artists who continue to create and manifest their work, as we all support each other through so much breakthrough and breakdown.
If you are in the Bay Area, I look forward to seeing you at the reading on June 2.
Below I’m happy to share a poem from Double Rainbow.
Much love,
Carolyn
How to Be a Poet
Step into the garden. Look and breathe.
Appreciate the beauty. Marvel at the abundance.
Do some human work not trying to be clever or perfect.
Harvest some radishes that have grown gnarly in a few short weeks.
Visit Mojos' grave remember his handsome feline beauty his grace.
The gaze that pierces souls.
See how his begonias are doing.
Call my beloved daughter and grandson.
Feel their adoration and joy in each other.
See how her heart has opened into a scarlet peony.
Witness my precious husband.
See the woodland creature so close to the surface.
Watch him manifest some earth plane healing.
Take a forest bath on a wooded trail.
Enter the magical realm of Grandmother Oak.
Approach the water, with its riotous winged ones frolicking like hotshots
Or still like sentries awaiting the scent of remembrance on the breeze.
See the light play through the redwoods and eucalyptus,
the ivy that climbs to infinity.
Remove my shoes and walk barefoot on the smooth trail. Grounding.
Kneel and kiss the earth.
Take myself to my quietest place.
Embrace my fears.
Compost them.
Welcome my muse feed her ripe persimmons.
Tango to her gypsy violin.
Leave footprints where the shoreline meets the sea.
